Edgework and the fringes of faith

Edgework is when you get up to the boundaries of what you are used to being comfortable in, and you push out, you push those boundaries out so that it brings you into a state of learning, growing, [and] discomfort sometimes. (Dawn Gabriel)

Edgework is an important and rewarding practice that you can do to meet the edges of your faith – and even yourself – in the journey of deepening and personalizing your relationship with God.

Do not be afraid to explore. Use exercises like Lectio Divina or work with a spiritual guide or counselor to help you go further and understand more.

Lectio Divina

The practice of Lectio Divina was more Catholic in the past, but any person from any faith can use its teachings now.

Lectio Divina means “divine” or “sacred reading”.

It was a methodology used by my monks to pray over scripture. The classic system taught through Lectio Divina is to read the scripture, reflect on it, respond to it, and then rest.

I had never read scripture that way, it was very different. It was alive and experiential. (Dawn Gabriel)
